On 22nd September, The Saturdays will return to Bournemouth in triumphant style to celebrate their Greatest Hits album, which was released last month.
I spoke to Mollie King to find out more about the tour.
Are you excited for the new tour?
Oh my god, I’m so excited. I can’t wait to see all our fans again and touring is my most favourite thing to do so I can’t wait to do all of that and to release the album as well, I can’t believe we’re actually releasing a greatest hits so I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.
So it sounds as if the fans have been really excited about it then?
Yeah they have, they’re mental our fans, they’re so dedicated and so loyal and I feel we really owe this to them, to give them a greatest hits where they can come along and know all the words to the songs and celebrate with us that we’re on to our 17th single, so yeah definitely, it’s for them.
What’s your favourite song that you’ve ever done?
It’s so difficult, I’ve got two favourites. One of them is Notorious and the other is Higher.
Why those two?
Well Notorious, I love it, I love the video we did for it.. I think it’s a really good track and when we perform it live, the bass in the track it really plays out loud and you feel like you’re on fire when you’re up there doing that one and I love higher because it’s a really feel good song and everyone seems to know the words to it and everyone claps along.
With the tour, is there anywhere in particular you’re really looking forward to playing?
I love all of them, I love all the big cities where you can go shopping in the morning before you perform. You don’t get a lot of time but you get enough to pop out and have a bit of shopping or go out for breakfast but we tend to sit down to hair and make up at about 2 in the afternoon or something but that’s just because there’s 5 of us and it takes so long to get everyone ready but it is so nice to be able to go out and meet the locals and really get stuck into it. For a lot of bands it’s a case of arriving at the venue and you’re straight on but we try to arrive at each city the night before so we get the morning there so hopefully we’ll get time to have a good look around.
Are there any surprises planned for the tour?
Well, we’re going to be doing some new material as well, there’s gonna be new songs on the greatest hits so we’ll be performing that and then with the Saturdays show it’s always a massive party, it’s a real fun night out with loads of costume changes and we’re gonna have our dancers with us as well so it really is the full works, a full on pop show which is gonna have all the tricks going on. So yeah, we love to do as much as we can up there.
What are your plans for the future?
We’re gonna be getting in the studio again and doing a new album. Of course it’s not the end of the band, it’s just that we’ve released so many singles now that we have to celebrate it and put them all on one cd. We have been around for 7 years so I think it definitely feels like the right point to be doing this but not at all the end. We’re gonna keep releasing new music so yeah, look out for it I guess!
What would you say to those people who aren’t sure whether to come see you or not?
With a Saturdays show, you know you’re gonna have a good time, we’re a really feel good band and we don’t do anything half measures, we go full out and whether it’s the special effects or the costumes. You’re gonna know all the words because it’s a greatest hits tour and it’s gonna be all 5 of us on stage and whoever your favourite member is, you know there gonna be up there shaking it so yeah!
What has been the highlight of your career in the Saturdays so far? Has there been any moment which has really stood out for you?
I think for me it was performing at Wembley on our last tour. I think that every performer grows up dreaming of performing at Wembley and getting on that stage and shouting ‘good evening Wembley’, it was just a massive achievement and just the overall tour really, I think everyone dreams of doing an arena tour so yeah I think just that whole thing really!
Tickets are still on sale for their show at the BIC on their website.
