Fire fighters battle blaze at Sharkey's Bar

Fire fighters were called to Sharkey’s Sports Bar, on Old Christchurch Road this morning as smoke and flames were spotted coming out of the building.

Residents were evacuated from their homes as the blaze had spread to the flats above the bar.

At 11am residents began returning when one of six residents spotted smoke billowing out of the flats above The George Tapps building.

Police cordoned off the road, preventing access for motorists, while spectators watched the crew tackle the flames.

No one was harmed, but firemen and women battled to gain control of the fire.

Karen Adams, Incident Commander at Dorset Fire and Rescue Service spoke to The Rock at the scene.
